SATISFACTORY ACADEMIC PROGRESS
Standards of Progress
In accordance with federal and state regulations and MnSCU Policy 2.9, Anoka-Ramsey Community College shall monitor all credits for all students and shall apply the following minimum cumulative standards of progress beginning with the students' sixth attempted credit:
-Qualitative-Students are expected to meet or exceed a cumulative earned grade point average (GPA) of 2.00.
-Quantitative-Students are expected to meet or exceed a cumulative earned percentage of 67%.
-Maximum time frame for financial aid recipients- Students may continue to receive financial aid through
150% of the published credit length of the program (example: 150% of a 64-credit AA degree equals 96 credits).
Evaluation Period
A student's academic progress shall be evaluated prior to the 10th day of the subsequent academic term.
Failure to Meet Standards
-Maximum Time-Frame: A student reaching 150% of the published credit length of the program is immediately suspended from financial aid eligibility.
-Probation: A student failing to meet the minimum cumulative qualitative or quantitative standard of academic progress is immediately placed on probation. A student on probation remains eligible to enroll and receive financial aid.
-Suspension of Students on Probationary Status: A student on probation failing to meet the minimum cumulative qualitative or quantitative standard of academic progress during his/her next term of enrollment is immediately placed on suspension, unless the student meets continued probation standards. A student on suspension is not eligible to enroll or receive financial aid.
-Continuation of Students on Probationary Status: A student on probation who meets a term minimum qualitative or quantitative standard during the probationary term shall be permitted to retain enrollment and financial aid eligibility under a continued probation status, until such time as: a) the student has met the cumulative standards and is therefore reinstated in good academic standing, or b) the student fails to meet both the cumulative standards and the term standards, and is therefore suspended, or c) it is determined it is not possible for the student to meet the cumulative standards within the maximum timeframe allowed, and is therefore suspended.
-Suspension of Students for Extraordinary Circumstances: A student may be immediately suspended in the event of extraordinary circumstances, including but not limited to a student who was previously suspended, then reinstated and whose academic progress falls below minimum standards of progress, or a student whose attendance pattern demonstrates the abuse of receiving financial aid.
Notification
Students failing to maintain academic progress standards shall be notified in writing. Notification shall include conditions of probation or suspension and the process to appeal suspension status.
Appeals
A student has the right to appeal his/her suspension or maximum timeframe based on unusual or extenuating circumstances, including but not limited to the death of a family member or student injury or illness. The Suspension Appeal must be submitted in writing to the Suspension Appeal Committee of the home campus and include an explanation of the circumstances that negatively affected academic progress, a plan to correct deficiencies, and supporting documentation. The Maximum Time-Frame Appeal must be submitted in writing to the Financial Aid Office. Students who appeal an initial adverse decision shall have their appeal considered by the alternate campus committee. The result of a student's appeal shall be communicated in writing.
Reinstatement
-A probationary student will have his/her academic good standing reinstated upon meeting or exceeding the minimum cumulative qualitative and quantitative standards of academic progress.
-A suspended student may have his/her eligibility to enroll and receive financial aid reinstated only after an appeal has been approved. Neither paying for their own classes nor sitting out a period.
