Registration Planner: various scenarios

Variety of Registration Scenarios

New Online student :: Part-time Technical Student :: Full-time Technical Student

Course suggestions in the samples below are not related to any specific field, but an outline of how a student may wish to balance their schedule.  It's important to note that some programs have a specific start term and others encourage students to begin at any term in the year.  Your Program Faculty Advisor would have more information specific to your choice.

There is a wonderful tool called the Degree Audit report that you should review on a consistent basis.  Determining a progression plan with your program faculty advisor is also recommended.

Sample One: Registration Planner for a new Online Student

Fall (term I) Spring (term II) Summer (term III) Fall (term IV) Spring (term V) Summer (term VI)
3-6 credits 6-9 credits 3-6 credits 6-12 credits 9-12 credits 6-9 credits

As you can see, in this schedule the student is slowly increasing the credit load each term.  This allows the student to acclimate to the online learning environment, allowing him/her to focus on learning the content while becoming familiar with the online course delivery.

Sample Two: Registration Planner for a Part-time Technical Student

The information in this table shows a practical nursing proposed "progression plan".  The students credit load varies from 6-11 credits per term. (Practical Nursing resource)  Your own credit load choice must work best for only one person - YOU!   You must keep in mind that financial aid is impacted by credit load.

Sample Three: Registration Planner for a Full-time Technical Student

The following would be appropriate for a full-time student who plans to work on clinicals during the summer. His math assessment placed him in Math Foundations and he plans to pursue an AAS in Health Information Technology. This particular student is planning on completing all credits in the 64 credit program in the two year time-span so may be taking more than 12 credits in some terms or take an extra term to complete all electives.
