Netiquette is a term for appropriate conduct online. Although we come from different backgrounds and we have different viewpoints, it is important to treat others with respect and respond in a civil manner.
The following four tips are common cyberspace courtesies:
- Consider carefully what you write; it's a permanent record and can be easily forwarded to others.
- Don't copy and send entire Web pages to a discussion group, just type the URLs (Web addresses) into the text.
- Don't overuse acronyms like BTW (by the way) or IMHO (in my humble opinion). Not everyone is experienced with this jargon, and they may not want to admit their confusion--possibly missing your point.
- Proofread your email before you send it. Although email is a more informal method of communication than writing a letter, be sure you make your points clear and concise. Use a spell checker if available.
