Student Advising

When you were admitted to the university, an academic advisor was assigned to help you plan your academic program. You will find your advisor's contact information in the NetDirect portal, along with other important information and announcements. If you start to run into problems completing courses successfully, seek out your advisor early, before you do serious damage to your GPA. Your advisor can:

• Provide accurate information about Metropolitan State's programs, requirements, policies and procedures.
• Assist you in making educational plans consistent with your goals, abilities and interests.
• Help you explore alternatives and determine a realistic course load.
• Help you select courses that best meet your individual and academic goals and requirements.
• Refer you to appropriate sources of information and assistance.

When you meet with or call your advisor have the following ready:

• Updated DARS report with your program requirements
• Tools for tracking your major such as a checklist and/or flowchart
• List of your questions and/or concerns

You will want to keep in touch with your advisor throughout your academic program. Your advisor can help you sort out what is going wrong and identify strategies and resources. If you need help finding an advisor, you can find a list of the colleges and contacts at Academic Advising.
