Completed a Technical Degree?

If you have completed a technical degree, it will often result in Metropolitan State University accepting all your general education courses and a block of 16 technical credits toward your bachelor's degree. Most technical degrees such as interior design or paralegal are designed to be career specific. However, you may want to explore all your options to determine the best plan of action for you, including First College where you design an individualized degree that would build on your previous course work.

First, the evaluation of your transcripts called a Degree Audit Report (DARS) will be critical for planning your academic program. Important: If you are considering designing your own degree, register for PRSP 301 Perspectives: Educational Philosophy and Planning your first term. Perspectives course also satisfies a one 4-credit upper-division Liberal Studies requirement.

Second, First College will accept all your technical credits from another Minnesota Colleges and University (MnSCU) institution within the system. These credits may be applied toward the 120 credits to graduate and be used in your degree planning.

Third, consider your short-term and long-term goals. When designing your degree, incorporate the prerequisites for a possible master's degree into your undergraduate degree. Choose courses that satisfy more than one requirement and/or upper-division credit. Instead of choosing a major that can be sixty-some credits, consider incorporating a minor that can be twenty-some credits.
