Before Registration

Complete the Program Planning module

Be aware of prerequisites and take these courses in their proper sequence.  Use the Registration Planner to plan out the courses you need for your academic program and the sequence you plan to take them. Know which courses are offered and when.Taking courses in their proper sequence will build on your previous learning and help you get the most out of your education. Other considerations include:

Choose your creative learning strategy

Know which courses you do not need to take or should not be taking. Consider courses in your academic program that require special approval such as internships, prior learning, CLEP exams as well as reading, writing and math assessments before registration begins. Plan ahead and incorporate learning strategies that are in your best interest while meeting requirements.

Determine a course load that ensures success

Consider family, work load, homework, class time, and commuting time. Be aware of financial and policy constraints, as well as when courses are and are not offered.

Select courses that take into consideration your skill level and where you are in your program

If you are a freshman, you will want to take level 100 and 200 general education courses such as writing and math -- important skills needed to be successful in college. If you are a junior, you should have your general education requirements met and working on your major.

Take your assessments

The results will offer important insight into your current reading, writing, and math skills and help you select appropriate courses for your first term.

Know what courses transfer

If there are courses you have taken previously and do not know if they transfer, work with academic advising to have the course evaluated. Do not take a course if you think you've already taken a similar course at a previous institution. If you take a course twice, you will not get credit the second time.
