Online courses are the equivalent of their traditional on-campus counterparts. They cover the same subject matter, carry the same credits, and are taught by resident and community faculty. Many students think online courses are easier, but they are not. Before taking an online course, you want to ask yourself:
- Am I an independent learner who does not need the classroom structure to succeed?
- Am I able to complete homework and other assignments on time, without reminders?
- Do I have good reading and writing skills?
- Do I have a history of successfully completing my courses?
- Do I have the ability and commitment to use updated virus scanning software for files I send and receive?
- Do I have an e-mail account, Internet access, software and hardware to take an online course?
Taking an online course does not mean you can go on vacation for the term. If you are still wondering whether online is right for you, check out the Minnesota Online Web site for another self-assessment tool.
