Being a Successful Student

Completing your education plan is a challenge for anyone. You will not only be looking outward in new ways, but also inward. This journey will be rewarding, challenging, and maybe even frustrating at times. If you are working full time, have been away from school for awhile, or have weaknesses in your academic background, you may be concerned about how you will meet the challenge. To get off to a great start in your college program:

  • Consider your learning style when selecting a particular course format.
  • Take ownership for your learning by being an engaged and responsible student.
  • Use the Student Empowered Wheel to spend some time assessing your strengths, as well as your challenges as a student. Rate yourself -- and decide what steps you will take to address areas that concern you.
  • Check out the Study Guides and Strategies for learning in an educational setting.
  • Check out the tips for managing your GPA.
  • Regularly seek academic advising services throughout your college experience.
